Lose weight by cutting carbs. The Jerry Maguire Way!

If you are looking to lose weight by cutting carbs then you need to understand how carbs and diets work. Low carb diets work in theory because carbohydrates are used by the body for energy and to process fat. So they are broken down into fuel for the muscles. Therefore limiting the amount of carbohydrates in the body limits this available fuel. At first you might actually put on weight as the body is deprived of energy. So your body burns fat instead. This is not recommended as losing weight by cutting carbs brings many side effects like increase in hunger and thus you’ll end up eating more than required.

It is certainly possible to lose weight by cutting carbs, however carbohydrates are a key food group and therefore although giving you an initial weight loss, losing weight by cutting carbs is not good for you in the long run.

Carbohydrates, especially complex carbohydrates are the only fuel for your muscles and brain. They can not function on anything else! They are important sources of energy for physical activity and proper organ function. Carbohydrates that is not burnt up ultimately end up as body fat. However this is not suggesting that you should remove carbohydrates from your diet. Losing weight by cutting carbs, like everything else must be done in moderation.

To many companies would have us believe that Fat or carbs, is what makes us fat, so eating less of it is will keep us thin and healthy. Yet again ignoring that losing weight by cutting carbs is not the way to lose weight. Fat or carbs is needed by the body - in the right amounts. Not giving the body what it needs is not going to be healthy.

What I am driving at here is that in the short term, yes you can lose weight by cutting carbs, you can lose weight by cutting fat, you can lose weight by cutting food etc but its not good for you. And because you can only do it for the short term, as soon as you switch back to your usually diet you can be sure that you will just pile the pounds back on and as you may have already experienced there is nothing more depressing than this for someone who has been successful in losing weight.

A far better option is to have a balanced life style where you eat adequately and enjoy a healthy dose of physical exercise. Don’t forget about the emotional side too. Make sure to add in time to unwind and enjoy life with your loved ones. Like Cuba Gooding Junior said in the movie Jerry Maguire, he wanted the “Kwan!” This way you can safely and enjoyably lose weight by cutting carbs and keeping it off.
